The Toxic Hit List: 5 Ingredients We Will NEVER Put in Your Skincare

Part of Archwood Soapery's "No Crap. Ever." philosophy is being upfront about what we actively exclude. We are deeply committed to clean-label skincare, and that means formulating without the known industry culprits. Here are 5 ingredients you will absolutely never find in any Archwood product:

  1. Parabens: Used widely as synthetic preservatives (e.g., methylparaben, propylparaben), these are known endocrine disruptors. They mimic estrogen in the body, potentially interfering with hormonal systems. We choose safer, Eco-cert approved alternatives to ensure microbial safety without this risk.

  2. Artificial Dyes: They are purely cosmetic, add no benefit, and are common skin irritants and allergens. We rely on the natural colors of our potent raw materials for visual appeal.

  3. Phthalates: Often hidden under the generic term "fragrance" or "parfum," these plasticizing chemicals are powerful endocrine disruptors linked to developmental and reproductive issues. Because we list every single ingredient, you know you are safe from hidden phthalates.

  4. Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives: These preservatives (like DMDM hydantoin or quaternium-15) slowly release formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen and common skin sensitizer. They are cheap to use but pose unacceptable risks to skin health and safety.

  5. Sulfates (SLS/SLES): Harsh surfactants that create a lot of foam but strip the skin and scalp of natural protective oils. This leads to a compromised skin barrier, resulting in irritation, dryness, and sensitivity. We formulate with gentle, non-stripping cleansers instead.

We believe what we leave out is just as important as what we put in.
